About Hexham Racecourse

Hexham Racecourse is a National Hunt (jump racing) course set high on the moorland at High Yarridge, above the town in the Tynedale countryside. Racing on the site dates back as far as 1793, but the modern course took shape from 1890, when local businessman Charles Henderson began developing it, buying the land in 1907. Its most historic contest, the Heart of All England Maiden Hunters' Chase, was first run in 1907. The elevated setting gives the course sweeping views and a reputation as one of the most scenic and intimate jump tracks in Britain.

The left-handed circuit is known for its undulations and a severe uphill climb from the end of the back straight to the finish, which makes for dramatic, unpredictable finishes. The course stages jump racing across the year, with a series of race meetings including popular evening and twilight fixtures in spring and autumn. Beyond raceday it offers hospitality and function facilities and is also home to a holiday park, drawing visitors to the surrounding countryside.
