Privacy Policy
How Hexham.live collects, uses, and protects your personal information.
Last updated: June 2026
Hexham.live(“we”, “us”, “our”) is an independent community website for Hexham and the surrounding area. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. What data we collect
Analytics data
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. This collects anonymised data including pages visited, time spent on site, approximate geographic location (city level), device type, and referral source. We do not collect or store your IP address in its full form — GA4 anonymises IP addresses by default.
Contact form submissions
When you submit our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and message content. This data is used solely to respond to your enquiry.
Newsletter sign-ups
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email we send.
2. Cookies
Essential cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to remember your cookie consent preference. These do not track you or collect personal data.
Analytics cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies (including _ga and _ga_*) to distinguish unique visitors and track session information. These cookies are only set after you consent to analytics via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies.
3. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services:
- Google Analytics 4— website analytics. Data is processed by Google under their privacy policy.
- YouTube embeds— some pages include embedded YouTube videos. YouTube may set cookies when you interact with an embedded video. See Google's privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo— we fetch weather forecast data from the Open-Meteo API. This request includes your approximate location (based on the area our site covers, not your device location). No personal data is sent to Open-Meteo.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Data retention
- Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics for 14 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
- Contact form submissions are retained for as long as necessary to handle your enquiry, typically no longer than 12 months.
- Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe.
5. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access— request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification— request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure— request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to restrict processing— request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability— request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object— object to our processing of your personal data.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at claude@javabeat.co.uk. We will respond within 30 days.
