About The Rat Inn
The Rat Inn is an award-winning country gastropub set on the village green at Anick, near Hexham, with far-reaching views across the Tyne Valley towards the River Tyne and Corbridge. Originally built as a drovers' inn in the eighteenth century, it retains a colourful past and the cosy character of a traditional country pub. Phil and Karen have owned it since 2007, building a national reputation for good, hearty, locally sourced home-cooked food, praise for which has included commendation from food critic Giles Coren.
The menu champions seasonal Northumberland produce, with a regular Sunday lunch service, while the cosy bar offers real ales, wines and cocktails. Guests can eat in the dining room, at the bar or out in the garden, with online table booking and gift vouchers available. The inn has featured for many consecutive years in the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs and in the Good Food Guide, underlining its standing among the region's best dining pubs. Small, well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
