About Bouchon Bistrot

Bouchon Bistrot is an authentic French bistro tucked away just off Hexham's Market Place on Gilesgate, bringing country-style Loire Valley cooking to the Tyne Valley. Owner Gregory hails from the Loire Valley and comes from a family of restaurateurs, having trained in Michelin-starred kitchens across France. A 2021 refurbishment created three individually decorated dining spaces full of French charm, complemented by a rooftop terrace spanning two floors that is well suited to summer dining. The result is a warm, characterful setting that aims to transport diners to rural France without leaving Northumberland.

The kitchen, led by long-serving Head Chef Nico, focuses on traditional French technique using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, with daily specials alongside the main carte. Signature dishes include cheese soufflé, steak tartare and confit duck served with gratin dauphinois, fine beans and bacon. The restaurant also caters for private dining, seating between twelve and fifty guests across two first-floor rooms for celebrations, family gatherings and corporate events, with bespoke menus and packages available on request.
