The Minerva Centre

A charity supporting adults with learning disabilities through arts, crafts and community-skills education, with a volunteer-run shop.

About The Minerva Centre

The Minerva Centre is a registered charity on Hallstile Bank in Hexham dedicated to supporting adults with learning disabilities. Working in the style of a small college, it aims to help those with different learning abilities realise their full potential, developing individual strengths while building self-esteem and confidence. Creativity sits at the heart of its approach, combining enjoyable artistic activity with structured educational pathways in a supportive, small-group environment.

Courses are taught in small groups and span pottery and sculpture, textiles and fabric work, painting and design, photography and card-making, alongside recognised NCFE qualifications. The centre also runs a shop selling craftwork made by its students, giving learners a genuine outlet for their creations and connecting the charity with the wider Hexham community. Together the workshops and shop provide both meaningful education and a route to greater independence for the adults it supports.
