About Seiken Ryu Karate

Seiken Ryu Karate Association teaches traditional Shukokai-style karate to children and adults across Tynedale and Northumberland, under chief instructor Peter Atkinson. The association runs classes most days of the week at a range of community venues, giving members a clear coloured-belt grading pathway, regular gradings and the chance to enter competitions. It has a strong family focus, with children's and beginners' groups kept separate from adults and senior grades, and also delivers after-school clubs in the area.

Its nearest dojo to Hexham is in Corbridge, a short drive down the valley, where Sensei Wayne Bond leads Friday sessions with a children's and new-starters class followed by an adults' and senior-grades class. As with any traditional karate club, the emphasis is on discipline, respect and technique, making it a well-structured introduction to martial arts for younger children in particular.
