About The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre

The Sill is Northumberland National Park's National Landscape Discovery Centre, set beside the B6318 Military Road near Once Brewed and Bardon Mill, at the heart of the Hadrian's Wall country in the western Tyne Valley. Its distinctive grass-roofed building, which you can walk up onto for views across the Whin Sill crags and the Wall, houses free interactive exhibition galleries exploring the landscape, geology and heritage of the National Park, alongside a changing programme of temporary exhibitions.

As well as the galleries there is a cafe serving local produce, a shop, an events and learning programme, and a YHA youth hostel under the same roof, making it a natural base for walkers on the Hadrian's Wall Path and families exploring the National Park. Entry to the centre and its exhibitions is free, with car parking on site, and it is open seven days a week, roughly a half-hour drive west of Hexham along the Tyne Valley.
