1st Hexham Scout Group
Hexham's Scout group, based at the Lookwide Centre on Maiden's Walk behind the general hospital, running Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers for young people across the town and Tyne Valley.
About 1st Hexham Scout Group
1st Hexham Scout Group is the town's Scout group, part of Northumberland Scouts, meeting at its own headquarters, the Lookwide Centre on Maiden's Walk in the east end of Hexham, just behind the general hospital. A registered charity run entirely by volunteers, the group gives young people the chance to try new things, make friends and spend time outdoors, from games and crafts to camps, hikes and expeditions. It runs the main Scouting sections by age: Beavers for ages 6 to 8, Cubs for ages 8 to 10 and a half, Scouts for ages 10 and a half to 14, and Explorers for ages 14 to 18.
As with most local groups, the younger sections are popular and there is often a waiting list, particularly for Beavers and Cubs, so it is worth registering interest early rather than waiting until your child is exactly the right age. The group depends on adult volunteers, and it is usually the shortage of leaders rather than space that decides how many children it can take, so parents willing to help are always welcome. You can register interest and find current details through the group's own website or the national scouts.org.uk join page.
