Free Summer Bingo Trail Invites Families to Explore Hexham
A free 25-challenge bingo trail is sending Hexham families around the town this summer, with cards from Queen's Hall and Mr Wolf toy shop and donations going to the Chrysalis dementia club.
If you are looking for something to fill the last stretch of the summer holidays, a free town trail is turning Hexham itself into a family game. The Hexham summer bingo trail sets 25 playful challenges across the town centre, encouraging families to get outdoors, explore, and see familiar streets with fresh eyes.
It is a low-cost, low-pressure way to spend an afternoon, and any donations go to a good local cause — making it well worth a look before term starts again.
How it works
Pick up a card, then work through a grid of 25 activity squares dotted around Hexham. The challenges mix history, nature and a bit of fun: spotting the carved faces at St Mary's Chare, drawing the Moot Hall, visiting The Big Story at the Abbey, following Cogito Books' 'Where's Wally?' trail, finding the barbarian carving in Hexham Abbey, using the Talking Bench, and identifying birds at Wydon Water.
Cards carry QR codes with clues, and families are encouraged to share their adventures using #hexhamsummerbingo.
Where to get a card
Cards are available from two spots in town: the Queen's Hall box office, open Monday to Saturday (closed for lunch), and Mr Wolf toy shop on Market Street, open seven days a week. Taking part is free, with a suggested £2 donation.
A good cause
Those donations go to Hexham's Chrysalis Club, which runs dementia-friendly activities and support in the town. The trail was put together by Janie French, formerly of Visit Hexham and now with the Hadrian's Wall Partnership.
"There's still time to fill that card before the holidays end," she said. "It costs nothing to take part, it gets the whole family outdoors."
Best for: Grab a bingo card from Queen's Hall or Mr Wolf on Market Street, tackle the 25 challenges around town, and pop a £2 donation towards the Chrysalis dementia club.
