Best Playgrounds in Hexham
A newly refurbished play park, a riverside playground with a zip wire, and a neighbourhood green space, the best playgrounds in Hexham.
Hexham has several well-maintained playgrounds within easy walking distance of the centre, plus a riverside park that makes a full family day out on its own.
The Sele Play Park
The Sele is Hexham's flagship playground, sitting inside the historic Abbey Grounds. It recently completed a major £210,000 refurbishment including a Giants Multi Play structure, Robinia Tree Climbers, a Robinia Multi Play unit, and swings with both flat and cradle seating for different ages. The wider Sele grounds hold a skate park (refurbished in 2023), formal gardens, a bandstand, and open space. Public toilets are available. The Sele regularly earns Green Flag status.
Tyne Green Country Park
A ten-minute walk north of the town centre, Tyne Green Country Park offers a large enclosed playground ideal for children under ten. Equipment includes a zip wire, climbing frames, tunnels, swings, and slides. The play area sits within a spacious riverside park that is pushchair-friendly, with public toilets, picnic tables, and free parking. Cafe Enna is nearby for food and drinks.
The Rocket Park
At the east end of Hexham, the Rocket Park is a smaller neighbourhood play space offering a quieter alternative to the busier Sele for younger children.
Practical Tips
All three play areas are free to use. The Sele and Tyne Green are within walking distance of the town centre and railway station. For the fullest day out, combine Tyne Green with a riverside walk, then head to the Sele before finishing at one of the cafes on the market place.
