About The Grateful Bread

The Grateful Bread is a small, family-run artisan bakery on Market Street in the centre of Hexham, specialising in sourdough bread. Everything is baked in small batches, and the bakery is known to close early on days when it sells out, reflecting its handmade, day-by-day approach. Alongside its breads it stocks a few carefully chosen complementary items, including cultured butter, honey, jams and freshly roasted coffee.

The daily range centres on its Hexham white sourdough and a malted brown sourdough, supplemented by rolls, tinned milk loaves and sweet bakes such as cardamom buns and chocolate babka. A 100% rye sourdough is baked on selected days, and seasonal specials such as cranberry and walnut sours appear through the year.
