The current business was established in 1991, with a fish-and-game heritage tracing back over a century, and has built a strong reputation across the Tyne Valley and wider Northumberland for quality and provenance. Everything is prepared on site to the firm's own recipes, handcrafted in small batches using locally sourced ingredients, with each order made fresh rather than held in stock.

Alongside its Acomb unit, where customers can pre-order or call in, Ridley's trades at farmers' markets across the region and offers a weekly online order list. The business has earned notable recognition, including a Great Taste Gold award and membership of the Guild of Fine Food, and has been recommended by chef Rick Stein.
