The monthly Farmers' Market returns to Market Place on Saturday morning, and there is plenty happening across the wider North East including the Northumberland Plate, a seaside food festival, and live theatre in Newcastle. Here is what is on this weekend.
Hexham Farmers' Market
Saturday 27 June at Market Place, Hexham. The monthly farmers' market brings local producers to the centre of Hexham from 9am to 1:30pm. Fresh meat, cheese, bread, vegetables, and artisan products from across the Tyne Valley and Northumberland. A lovely Saturday morning tradition and a great reason to support local growers and makers.
Northumberland Plate Festival
Saturday 27 June at Newcastle Racecourse. The Pitmen's Derby is the highlight of the flat racing calendar in the North East. A full day of racing at Gosforth Park, about 40 minutes from Hexham by train. One of the great sporting traditions of the summer.
Something in the Water (Joe McElderry)
Saturday 28 June at Theatre Royal, Newcastle. Joe McElderry stars in this new musical at the Theatre Royal, with performances at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. An easy train ride from Hexham to Central Station for a matinee or evening show.
Feast by the Sea
Saturday and Sunday 28-29 June at Spanish City, Whitley Bay. A weekend food festival at the iconic Spanish City dome on the Whitley Bay seafront. Street food, local producers, cookery demonstrations, and live music. A grand day out on the coast if the weather holds.
Buzz Dance: At The Movies
Friday 27 June at Northern Stage, Newcastle. A high-energy dance show inspired by the silver screen, performed at Northern Stage from 7:30pm. Contemporary dance with a cinematic twist -- a strong Friday night out in Newcastle.
Tynemouth Station Market
Saturday 27 June at Tynemouth Station. The region's favourite weekend market under the Victorian canopy, with handmade crafts, vintage finds, street food, and live music. Open from 9am to 4pm. About an hour from Hexham by train and Metro.
