Best Wedding Venues in Hexham

From a genuine medieval castle to a 1,300-year-old abbey and grand country-house hotels — some of the most memorable wedding venues in the North East.

Hexham.live·

Hexham and the surrounding Tynedale countryside punch well above their weight as a wedding destination. Within a short drive of the market town you can marry in a fourteenth-century castle, an Edwardian mansion set in a thousand acres, or one of the oldest churches in England, then celebrate with the Tyne Valley as your backdrop. The venues below are all real, licensed settings within easy reach of Hexham — and our Weddings in Hexham hub brings together local suppliers to help plan the rest of the day.

Castles and country houses

Langley Castle Hotel is a rare, genuine fourteenth-century castle a few miles west of Hexham, set in its own woodland. Couples can hire the entire castle for exclusive use, with a licensed ceremony setting and twenty-five bedrooms across the castle and grounds, plus an award-winning restaurant.

Slaley Hall is a four-star Edwardian mansion hotel wrapped in around a thousand acres of forest south-east of Hexham. Licensed for civil ceremonies, it offers a choice of elegant suites and holds only one wedding per day for exclusive use, with an on-site spa, pool and golf.

Matfen Hall, in the village of Matfen towards Ponteland, is a grand country-house hotel with golf and spa — a long-established luxury Northumberland wedding venue pairing stately reception rooms with extensive grounds.

Historic ceremony venues in town

Hexham Abbey is a Grade I listed abbey church whose origins reach back to around 674 AD, licensed for both religious weddings and civil ceremonies. Couples can exchange vows surrounded by more than 1,300 years of history, with the Abbey choir available to sing, and hold their reception in the renovated former Priory Buildings.

Hexham House is a Grade II listed Georgian house overlooking the Abbey grounds in the centre of town, redeveloped as the Hexham Register Office and civil-ceremony venue, with two settings — the intimate Lounge for up to 18 guests and the Garden Room for up to 70 — ideal for smaller or town-centre weddings.

Rural and barn-style

High House Farm Brewery is a working farm brewery, restaurant and visitor centre near Hadrian's Wall, whose barn and farm buildings are licensed for wedding ceremonies and private functions — a relaxed, rustic alternative to the castle and country-house venues, with its own beers on tap.
