Best Ice Cream in Hexham

Hexham is not flush with ice cream parlours — this is a small market town, not a seaside resort — but what it has is good, and the surrounding area adds some genuinely excellent options.

Get Licks, Hexham

The most prominent dedicated ice cream parlour in Hexham town, located near the entrance to the Sele park opposite the bandstand. Get Licks offers 22 flavours of real dairy ice cream, 20 of which are gluten-free, plus 4 dairy-free vegan options. They also serve milkshakes and bubble waffles. Having the Sele parkland right there makes it easy to take your cone for a walk.

Wheelbirks Parlour, Stocksfield

About four miles east near Stocksfield, Wheelbirks Parlour has been one of Northumberland's most celebrated ice cream destinations since 2010. Their Jersey herd provides the milk, producing a famously rich homemade ice cream served in converted stone farm buildings with an orchard garden and play area. Note: as of 2026, Wheelbirks Estate has been listed for sale and the parlour is due to close in September 2026.

A short drive away, Caffe Ginevra in Prudhoe is an Italian espresso bar producing authentic gelato in flavours including apple pie, berry crumble, and tiramisu. The closest thing to a proper Italian gelateria in the Hexham area.
