The Hoppings returns to Newcastle's Town Moor from Friday 19 to Sunday 28 June 2026, bringing with it over 140 years of fairground tradition. First held in 1882 as a Temperance Fair — created as a wholesome alternative to drinking and gambling during Race Week — it has grown into one of Europe's largest travelling funfairs. The name likely derives from the Middle English word for dancing. This year features over 400 attractions including the brand-new Elevate 85, an 85-metre-tall star flyer, alongside returning favourites such as dodgems, waltzers, helter skelter, Tagada, Psycho and Atmosfear. Feast Street offers a gourmet food quarter with a licensed bar and live music. Admission to the Moor is free, with rides priced individually. Arriving early or later in the evening helps avoid peak crowds.
