Sele Park Skatepark, Hexham

The centrepiece — reopened in early 2023 after a £150,000 community-led overhaul. The Hexham Youth Initiative spent years fundraising, securing £25,000 from Hexham Town Council and raising the balance themselves. The result is a modern concrete park with smooth transitions and variety for beginners and experienced skaters. Free to use, no booking, open year-round. Enter from Hallgate or Beaumont Street.

Highfield Park Skatepark, Prudhoe

About 9 miles east, Prudhoe's park was also completely rebuilt — a £180,000 project by CANVAS Spaces. One of the better community skateparks in the region. Reachable by bus (X84/X85) or rail (one stop east on the Newcastle-Carlisle line).

Other Options

  • Riverside Park, Corbridge — small, basic, suitable for younger beginners
  • Haltwhistle — modest skate area in the recreation ground
  • Newcastle and Gateshead for larger, more technical parks

Tips

The Sele park gets busy on warm evenings and weekends. No official supervision. Helmets and pads strongly recommended — the concrete is unforgiving.
