About This Event
The Wilson Family are one of English folk music's most acclaimed acts — a family group from Billingham, County Durham, who have been performing powerful a cappella folk songs since 1974. They are widely regarded as the benchmark for powerhouse unaccompanied singing, with career highlights including performing at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall alongside Northern Sinfonia and Kathryn Tickell, and recording with Sting for his album and play The Last Ship. They received the Gold Badge of the English Folk Dance and Song Society in 2017 — the society's highest honour. Sea shanties and maritime songs have always been central to their repertoire, and this free performance is a rare chance to hear one of the region's finest musical treasures.
