About This Event
The Heaton Shakespeare Festival returns in June 2026, bringing Shakespeare to life through the energy and enthusiasm of young performers from across Newcastle's Heaton neighbourhood. A collaboration between the People's Theatre — one of the largest amateur theatres in the UK — and local schools, the festival presents abridged versions of Shakespeare's most popular plays performed by around 180 young people aged 10 to 15. Launched in 2023, the festival has quickly become a highlight of the local calendar. The productions take place at the People's Theatre on Stephenson Road, and the atmosphere is joyful and inclusive — a genuine community celebration of the Bard that proves Shakespeare belongs to everyone.
